Neuroon Review – A Sleeping Mask That Regulates Your Sleep Hormone?

Is there really such a thing as a “smart sleep mask” that promises to help you sleep better at night, nap more efficiently, avoid jet lag, and optimize your sleep cycles?  Here’s our Neuroon review.

What is Neuroon?

Neuroon calls itself “the first intelligent sleep mask”. Priced at $300, Neuroon may also be the world’s most expensive sleep mask.

But as you might expect, this sleep mask has some surprising capabilities that justify the high price tag. Like most “smart” devices, it connects wirelessly to your iOS or Android smartphone over Bluetooth.

By using the Neuroon sleep mask regularly, you can sleep better at night, nap effectively during the day, and beat jet lag.

How does Neuroon do it? It does it using six core features. We’ll take a look at those features below.

Neuroon Features

Neuroon comes with six core features that turn it from an average sleep mask into a smart sleep mask. Here are those six features:

-Light Boost: Light spectrum therapy gives you a boost of energy. You activate the light spectrum therapy cycle and leave the mask on your eyes for 20 minutes. The light is specially designed to “readjust your biorhythm and mediate the sleep hormone melatonin.” You know how melatonin levels rise at night when our eyes detect darkness? Neuroon works in a similar way. It’s also specially designed to treat seasonal effective disorder (SAD).

-Sleep Analytics: Get more data about how you sleep and for how long with Neuroon’s sleep analytics. You get a comprehensive sleep report sent to your mobile device. That sleep report helps you interpret data like your average heart rate, sleep stages duration, the number of times you woke up at night, and movement. Neuroon actually measures your body’s brain waves, pulse, temperature, and physical motion while you sleep to give you all this data.

-Sunrise: Lights behind the Neuroon sleep mask will activate before it’s time to wake up, helping to simulate the sunrise and get your day started right.

-Personal Pause: This feature includes four customized naps to refresh your body and mind. There’s the Power Nap (20 minutes), the Body Nap (30 minutes), the REM Nap (1 hour), and the Ultimate Nap (90 minutes).

-Jet Lag Blocker: Neuroon blocks jet leg and helps to alleviate its negative effects using bright light therapy. You enter your destination into the mask (using the app) and then start preparing for the trip one week before you fly (for maximum effectiveness). The sleep mask will gradually encourage your body to adjust to your destination’s normal sleep cycle – so you go through less downtime when you eventually arrive.

-Biorhythm Adjuster: Neuroon lets you enter a customized schedule into the mask to help you prepare for working odd hours or keeping an irregular schedule. You enter your schedule into the app and then the mask analyzes your sleep patterns to recommend the best sleep times and wake times. It’s like having a sleep doctor in your pocket.

There’s also a seventh feature that helps you lucid dream. We’ll talk more about the Neuroon lucid dreaming system below.

Neuroon Lucid Dreaming App

One of the bonus features on Neuroon is the ability to make you a lucid dreamer. Lucid dreaming, for those out of the loop, is the type of dreaming where you can control your actions. Have you ever had a dream where you can fly around and explore the world on your own free will? That’s called lucid dreaming.

Most of us only have lucid dreams randomly. But some people actually train to lucid dream. One of the best ways to train yourself to lucid dream is to give your body subtle clues during REM sleep. Your brain, deep down, interprets these clues and you enter a state of lucid dreaming.

Neuroon has an app that helps you do this. Using the app for 10 minutes each night will “multiply your chances of lucid dreaming.” The app works like this:

Step 1) Before Falling Asleep: The app has dozens of guided meditation sessions that help you learn to remember more of your dreams and become more aware when you are dreaming. Multiple techniques are available to help all different types of dreamers.

Step 2) During REM Sleep: The Neuroon lucid dreaming app will give you external stimuli during REM sleep. Neuroon monitors your brain while you sleep. Then, when it detects you’ve entered the REM stage, it triggers gentle flashing beams of light and vibrations that help your brain understand you’re dreaming without actually waking you up.

Step 3) During the Day: Neuroon comes with a sleep diary that lets you record your dreams. There are even apps for Apple Watch and Android Gear that encourage you to do a “reality check” throughout the day – which is one strategy to help you train for lucid dreaming (yes, just like you saw in Inception).

The lucid dreaming app costs extra but Neuroon has regular promotions where they give away the app for free as part of your regular Neuroon purchase.

How Does Neuroon Work?

Neuroon may look like a simple sleep mask, but there’s a lot of technology hiding behind it. It claims to use medical-grade sensors to provide all of the above effects.

There’s also Bluetooth 4.0 BLE technology to allow the mask to communicate with iOS and Android devices.

Within the mask are four biometric sensors that measure critical body feedback like EEG, EOG, pulse, motion, and temperature. Those sensors also contain four LED lights that give signals to the user. The sensors are connected to your body via two metal tips. The tips are made from gold to prevent an allergic reaction.

There’s a small onboard storage unit that can hold up to seven days of data. Your entire data history will be synced via the app.

The sleep mask is powered by two lithium ion batteries. You’ll need to charge the sleep mask regularly by removing the sensor pack and connecting it to an outlet via micro-USB.

Meanwhile, the fabric itself consists of an elastic strip and memory foam, so it can fit the unique contours of your face and remember your unique face shape over time.

The Neuroon app is available on most major Android and iOS devices, including any Apple devices running iOS 7 and above with Bluetooth 4.0 and any Android devices running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and above with Bluetooth 4.0 or Bluetooth Smart.
