Fountain by Deciem Phyto-Collagen Molecule

Fountain by Deciem Phyto-Collagen Molecule

By Anne K.

I am new to the Truth in Aging community and was asked to test the Fountain by Deciem Phyto-Collagen Molecule ($40), a concentrated beauty supplement. I’m healthy and in my early fifties — but look more like I’m in my early forties. My skin is oily and quick to break out in cysts and whiteheads when I apply any products with oil. I am currently using an antioxidant serum, a firming cream-serum, and a matrixyl product in the morning and evening with focus on the deepest lines and areas of sun damage.

Beauty supplements seem to be a fast growing portion of the supplement industry. Pills, powders, juice drinks and elixirs are popping up everywhere with promises to enhance hair, skin and nails. But do they actually work? I didn’t have strong expectations when I first began to use this product. However, one study published in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology found a significant improvement in skin elasticity from using 2.5 grams of collagen hydrolysate (CH) over an eight week trial.

The Fountain line has more than 10 liquid beauty supplements, including The Beauty Molecule (resveratrol), The Hair Molecule (silicon and biotin) and The Phyto-Collagen Molecule (hydrolyzed collagen, wild phytoplankton, L-glutathione and hyaluronic acid). I was sent a full-size sample of the Phyto-Collagen Molecule, which contains 5 grams of hydrolyzed fish collagen per serving, xylitol, natural apple flavor, citric acid and potassium sorbate (a preservative). Eight ounces at 2 teaspoons per day gives you about seven weeks of treatments in one bottle.

The package is very attractive with a kraft paper box and clear labeling.  The product itself is a deep golden, somewhat viscous liquid that has the consistency of maple syrup at room temperature. The fluid is extremely sticky, so the challenge is keeping the bottle clean.  It has a screw-off cap, but would probably benefit more from a pump delivery system. I kept mine on a saucer to help prevent messy countertops.

I would describe the undiluted flavor as unpleasantly tart with a citric acid bite.  The label implies that natural apple flavor is added, but the product does not smell or taste like apple.  I didn’t enjoy drinking it straight from the bottle; however, it dissolves easily in water.  When the serving size (2 teaspoons) is diluted with at least 4 ounces of water, the flavor is much less intense and easier to take down.

After around ten weeks of testing, I noticed a slight difference in the tautness of the skin under my chin and on my neck. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any noticeable changes to the elasticity of my face or my smile lines. And while the liquid may be more convenient for people who don’t enjoy taking pills, I would probably prefer a powdered collagen drink mix to this.
