LumaRx – Intense Pulsed Light Skin Beauty System

LumaRX Review

LumaRX is a tool that removes unwanted facial and body hair with IPL technology.

About LumaRX

LumaRX has an app but no “about us” page on their website.  Welcome to 2016! So as of now, we do not know much about their history. But hopefully they will update soon so we can learn more about where they come from.

LumaRX Product

The LumaRX is an IPL product that’s been cleared by the FDA for production and sale in the US.

IPL stands for “Intense Pulsed Light” technology.  It uses quick pulses of very intense light to “zap” unwanted hair from the body.  The light is so focused it’s able to penetrate your skin tissue and damage the hair follicle, which is destroyed and reabsorbed by the body.

Sounds scary, painful and unpleasant but the experience is not as bad as most people think.  The “pain” is more of a tingling sensation with a bit of heat.  Besides, the results are wonderfully smooth skin.  After your initial treatment phase is over with, there’s no need to repeat except for periodic touch-ups.  In fact, you’re advised not to use your LumaRX more often than every two weeks.

After a few months with the device, you won’t have to!

The device looks like a gun, and there’s a computer inside which controls the light.  You can also select the intensity of the pulse to accommodate your skin, your hair, and your situation.  You work the pulses over the targeted body part until it’s done.  It takes about 20 minutes to do one full leg.

A few FAQ’s about the technology in LumaRX:

— It’s not a laser: that’s now deemed as an old school way of removing hair!

— The light can damage your eyes, so  always take the necessary precautions to protect them when using any IPL tool.

— It will permanently reduce hair growth but it won’t kill it forever.

— The darker and coarser the hair, the better LumaRX works.

LumaRX offers its product in two versions for the non-professional customer.  There’s’ the “Mini” ($379) and then there’s the “Full Body” ($449).  Here’s how they stack up against their competitors:

— Full body: 65,000 flashes and 8 J/cm2
— Mini: 6,000 flashes and 8 J/cm2 (the energy level)
— — Philips Lumea costs $229 and has 100,000 flashes per cartridge
— — Gillette Venus Naked Skin costs $490 and has 50,000 flashes
— — Remington iLIght Pro costs $219 and has 1,500 flashes with 7-8 J/cm2

The Opportunity

The only opportunity that exists is for salon professionals who want to use a more powerful version of the LumaRX in their salons.  They may also sell the other products to their retail salon customers for extra income out of their existing salon or spa business.

The pro version of the LumaRX is more like what you’d find in other spas or salons: designed for clinical use.  That means it’s a heck of a lot stronger so whoever’s using it had better be trained and insured.  Licensed, even.

Skin care professionals also get exclusive offers, too.

LumaRX Verdict

IPL is hot technology right now, and LumaRX is a worthy contender for top spot on the list of choices.  The 90-day return policy is very generous, too.

One of the biggest misunderstandings about IPL products is how long the cartridges are supposed to last.  As you can see from the list from the Products section comparing the options, there’s a pretty wide variance among the different brands.

All IPL tools have cartridges that run out.  Checking the number of flashes you get with your IPL is important if you consider value to be important.

LumaRX does pretty well with the flash-price balance, and delivers on the power as well.  Their assertion that the product works on gray and red hair as well as darker hair is comforting, too, that the product actually outperforms its competitors.

Lastly, if you’re wondering which model to get, refer back to the products section and take a look at those flash specs again…you’re bound to see that the full body version is a much better deal.
