Quell – Wearable Drug Free Pain Relief Technology

NeuroMetrix Quell Review

Quell is a drug-free, wearable pain relief system that promises to end chronic pain.

About Neurometrix

The company that sells Quell is called NeuroMetrix.  They are based in Waltham, Massachusetts, which is slightly west of Boston.  A healthcare company, they also develop point-of-care tests for patients as well as physicians.  These are neuropathy diagnostic tests used in hospitals.

The company does a lot of work on sleep disorders as well as chronic pain management.  Of course the two areas often overlap, especially in patients who suffer a debilitating vicious circle of one exacerbating the other.

The company was founded in 1996 by a group from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.  I’m going to stop right there and say that’s a pretty good endorsement.  Could you have better credentials for this stuff?

Neurometrix is publicly traded on the NASDAQ (NURO).  Although the company has been around for 20 years now, Quell just became available commercially late last year (as of this writing, that’s about a month ago!).  Before that, it was used clinically and has already been used by over 2.5 million patients since 1998.

Founder and president of NeruoMetrix is Shai N. Gozani, M.D., Ph.D.  He holds 25 US and international patents and I can’t even list his degrees, but suffice it to say he knows a lot about computer science (bahcelor’s degree), electrical engineering (Master’s degree), and neurobiology (doctorate).  Oh, and just for kicks he graduated from Harvard Med School.  Whatever you create, Dr. Gozani, I’ll buy it because you sound like a very smart man.

For their Senior Vice President and GM, this company has the guy who brought Sonicare toothbrushes to the world when he was at Philips.  He is Mr. Product Launcher and healthcare is his specialty.  He could get a job anywhere and now he’s with Neuromatrix.

Everyone else on the management team is equally impressive.  It feels silly saying this now, but Nerumatrix has an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau and there are no complaints, not a one.

NeuroMetrix Quell

The Quell Starter Kit costs $259 and comes with a 60 day money-back guarantee and free shipping for orders over $50.  As you can see from the prices below, free shipping is not hard to achieve!

There’s also a Quell Starter Kit Family Pack (two kits) that goes for $498, for a savings of $20 over the price of buying two separately..

Here are the other products:

— Quell Starter Kit and 6-month supply of Quell Electrodes: $398.75
— Quell Gift Bundle: $298
— Quell Electrodes, one month supply: $29.95

There is a 2 year warranty on Quell.  The technology behind this product has been cleared with the FDA.  And since it’s 100% drug free, it’s also non-addictive and has no side effects. In fact, it’s the only pain relief you can get without a prescription that’s approved by the FDA for use during sleep.  And anyone who has chronic pain can tell you: it’s important that you not have pain when you’re trying to sleep…remember the vicious circle of sleeplessness, pain, and lack of exercise mentioned earlier?

How Quell Works

Quell stimulates the sensory nerves which carry neural pulses to your brain.  When these pulses reach your brain, a natural response is triggered, blocking pain signals across your entire body.

You wear a band around your calf, and there’s an electrode that’s snapped into the band.  The electronic pulsing comes from that electrode.

It also tracks your activity and sleep quality.  So, when you go to bed the sensors know it and adjust the level of stimulation accordingly.  If you’re imagining wearing a heavy and stiff device all day every day, don’t worry.  It’s lightweight and soft, sort of like a polyester bandage.  It’s designed to be worn during the day as well as when you go to bed.  Pretty much 24/7.

The Verdict On NeuroMetrix Quell

The science seems to make sense on a gut level, and look at the credentials of this company.  It seems safe, too, and anything that allows people to treat pain without drugs is fantastic.  The price is even very reasonable, considering it’s giving you your life back.
