I may not be the typical reviewer here on Truth in Aging — a guy in his 30’s. But I do like to take care of my skin, especially since eczema sometimes attacks. So I was happy to have a chance to review Board and Batten’s Glowing Solution ($48/4oz).
Not a newbie to oils, I knew that I wouldn’t be using it on my face as I find most oils too rich…too “oily” for me. I tried with this one and it was no exception. So this review will focus of the use of the Glowing Solution as a body oil. My skin isn’t too dry and doesn’t get too dry, so it’s pretty “normal” most of the time.
Let’s get the one bad thing out of the way along with one neutral item. The bad — the dispenser on this bottle is laughably bad. I’m not sure if I got a bad one or if all of them are like this, but the bottle has a sprayer top that just squirts out a jet stream of product. I tried spraying it on my skin and it just splashes oil everywhere. So I tried a gentler press…no luck. So now, I spray a couple sprays onto my palm and just apply it like that (although mind you, there is STILL some splashing). And the neutral item is the scent. What does it smell like? Have you ever had Earl Grey tea? Imagine a concentrated dose of that citrusy smell with a slight floral twist. As a guy I don’t want heavy scents, and this has a pretty strong scent. But it dissipates very quickly.
Now, the good! The oil is pretty awesome. I’ve tried a bunch of oils — argan oil is bit too thick, some products I’ve tried don’t absorb well, but this one is great! Spreads well and absorbs really, really quickly. It leaves your skin with a slight sheen, a slight “glow” if you will — it’s a really great balance of moisturization.
The Glowing Solution contains meadowfoam oil, carrot oil, jojoba oil, and chia oil as its main ingredients. It’s a mixture said to have lots of antioxidants and omega-3s (probably from the chia) and is supposed to be great for the skin. I’ve been using this pretty regularly for a few weeks now, and while I can’t say I see a drastic change in my skin, I do think my skin is more moisturized than it’s been and may be smoother.
So, overall, in the world of oils, this is a winner!
