BioEffect EGF Serum Review – Worth It?
BioEffect is a lineup of skincare products that claim to be based on 10 years of scientific biotechnology research in order to deliver maximum anti-aging benefits to your skin. Here’s our review.
What is BioEffect?
BioEffect is a lineup of anti-aging skin creams designed to target wrinkles, fine lines, and other effects of aging. The premium-priced lineup of skin creams includes a 30 day treatment for €250 and an EGF serum for €350 – so this isn’t skincare for anyone on a tight budget.
EGF is the key ingredient in many BioEffect skin creams. That active ingredient is produced in barley plants grown in volcanic pumice, according to BioEffect. Those barley plants are then watered with Icelandic spring water.
Using green biotechology and ingredients like EGF, BioEffect claims that its products have a “proven efficacy”. They have reinforced that efficacy time and time again in double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies.
All BioEffect creams are made in Iceland. In fact, BioEffect claims that 25% of Icelandic women use BioEffect EGF serum.
The company behind BioEffect, ORF Genetics, has won numerous awards over the years – including Vogue’s Most Innovative Product of the Year. They were founded in 2001 to investigate how to use genetic engineering for pharmaceutical purposes. Today, their advanced genetic engineering technology is found in all BioEffect products.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at how BioEffect products work.
How Do BioEffect Products Work?
BioEffect describes its products as tools “that can rewrite the story of your skin”. The active ingredient, as mentioned above, is EGF, which comes from the barley seed. Creating EGF is an advanced scientific process:
“To forge EGF inside the barley seed, we have translated the genetic instructions on how it is made, into the genetic dialect of barley. That way we can instruct the barley plant to make EGF in its seed, which is identical to the EGF in our skin, and which the skin understands as its own”
explains the BioEffect About page [http://ift.tt/1sE0HlI].
If you’re paying attention, then you’ll note that EGF isn’t actually a component inside barley seed: it’s something that BioEffect has genetically engineered to be inside barley seed. So you can’t get these same benefits by rubbing ordinary barley seed extract on your skin. The barley seed is just a delivery system.
In any case, BioEffect claims its products are “the language of the skin”.
The formula was created in collaboration between three Ph.D. scientists in 2001. Those scientists had a goal to produce a better and purer way of producing human-like cellular activators for use in medical research and pharmaceuticals.
Today, the company behind BioEffect, ORF Genetics, consists of a team of 40 researchers.
Ultimately, EGF promises to deliver visible, dramatic improvements to your skin in a way that we don’t see with any other skin cream. It claims to restore your skin’s youthful radiance while minimizing signs of aging and rejuvenating the skin’s complexion.
To support these claims, BioEffect lists the results of a number of clinical studies. Some of the highlights from those studies include:
-25% of Icelandic women use BioEffect EGF Serum
-Users experience a 60% increase in skin thickness and a 30% increase in skin density, on average
Those clinical trial results come from a study involving 30 women who applied BioEffect EGF Serum on half their face for two months. Then, researchers compared the skin on either half of the face and concluded that BioEffect EGF Serum increased skin thickness and density.

ORF Genetics, the parent company of BioEffect, describes itself as “a pioneer in the manufacturing of growth factors and other recombinant proteins in plants.”
The company has created a number of genetic-based technologies over the years, including the Orfeus expression system, which lets the company use barley as a vehicle for high-throughput production of recombinant proteins.
BioEffect products rely on Orfeus in order to deliver anti-aging effects to your skin.
