Cold-EeZe – Reduce Your Cold Duration

Cold-Eeze Review

Cold-Eeze is a popular zinc lozenge used to treat cold and cough symptoms. Here’s our Cold-Eeze review.

What is Cold-Eeze?

Cold-Eeze is a lozenge that claims to be a clinically proven way to shorten your cold. The lozenges primarily use zinc to reduce cold, flu, and cough symptoms.

Popular Cold-Eeze products include Zinc Cold Shortening, Zinc Cold Shortening PLUS, Cold & Flu Symptom Relief, Children’s Symptom Relief, and Natural Energy Relief.

The medication comes in the form of a lozenge.

Cold-Eeze has been on the market since 1996. After successfully going through clinical trials in 1992 (Dartmouth College) and 1996 (Cleveland Clinic), Cold-Eeze rolled out nationwide in 1996.

How to Use Cold-Eeze

The manufacturer of Cold-Eeze recommends taking the lozenge when you have cold symptoms – like a cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, or hoarseness.

You shouldn’t take the lozenges on an empty stomach. You also should not eat or drink for at least 15 minutes after using Cold-Eeze.

If you’re using the Cold-Eeze oral spray, then you apply the oral spray to your mouth when you notice you have cold symptoms.

You should not chew Cold-Eeze when you take it. You should also repeat your dosage every 2 to 4 hours as needed until all symptoms subside. The recommended daily dosage according to the Cold-Eeze FAQs section is 6 lozenges for adults and 4 lozenges for children (ages 12 to 17).

How Does Cold-Eeze Work?

The common cold is caused by a cold virus residing in your upper respiratory system.

When you take Cold-Eeze, the drug’s unique zinc gluconate formula goes to work immediately. After hitting your tongue, the lozenge begins to “melt” and the zinc ions hit the sides of your mouth before eventually entering your upper respiratory system.

In the words of the official manufacturer of Cold-Eeze,

“Studies suggest that the release of zinc ions as found in the Cold-Eeze formula inhibit the cold virus’s ability to replicate, shortening the duration of the common cold.”

The active ingredient in Cold-Eeze is the zinc gluconate formula. After hitting your tongue, those zinc ions are released enter your bloodstream and eventually make their way to your upper respiratory tract, where they attack the cold virus.

The two clinical studies on Cold-Eeze that we linked above were double blind, placebo-controlled studies. One group of participants took a placebo, while the other group took Cold-Eeze. Because it was a “double-blind” study, neither the researchers nor the participants knew whether or not they were taking a real cold medication.

By the end of the study, the Cold-Eeze group reported significantly shorter cold and flu symptom durations.

Cold-Eeze Ingredients

Each dose of Cold-Eeze – whether you’re taking the lozenge or the oral spray – contains 13.3mg of zinc.
