KFC Finger Lickin’ Good Nail Polish Review
KFC Hong Kong just release an edible nail polish that puts the delicious taste of Kentucky Fried Chicken at your fingertips. Here’s our review of this crazy new nail polish.
What Is KFC Finger Lickin’ Good Nail Polish?
The Finger Lickin’ Good nail polish comes in two signature KFC flavors, including Original Recipe and Hot & Spicy.
The Original Recipe is a light taupe color with brown sparkles, while the Hot & Spicy is a fire engine red color with deep maroon sparkles.
Both polishes are totally edible. You can apply the nail polish to your finger nails and then lick your fingers to get the savory flavor of Kentucky Fried in your mouth any time you want it.
Perhaps the most amazing part of the Finger Lickin’ Good lineup is that AdWeek claims they’re infused with natural ingredients – including the same natural ingredients you find at any KFC restaurant. The polishes, according to all customer reviews so far, legitimately taste like Kentucky Fried Chicken.
In a statement, KFC Hong Kong provided some helpful instructions:
“To use, consumers simply apply and dry like regular nail polish, and then lick—again and again and again.”
What’s In It?
The edible nail polish, like the KFC original spice recipe itself, is a secret. KFC Hong Kong released the following statement:
“The recipe for our edible nail polish is unique and was specifically designed to hold the flavor, but to also dry with a glossy coat similar to normal nail polish.”
We know that the nail polish contains actual food ingredients because each bottle has an expiration date just five days after it’s bottled. Listed ingredients include original recipe seasoning, vegetable gum, edible color, vegetable oil and maltodextrin.
The short expiry date means that the nail polish needs to be ingested within five minutes of opening it. And, unlike regular nail polish, you can’t reuse it after the bottle has been opened.
Why?
Why is KFC, the world’s largest fried chicken restaurant, pulling a stunt like this?
The brand is trying to build up hype in Hong Kong. Over the past few weeks, KFC has been measuring the response on social media. The nail polishes are currently manufactured in a small batch and come in designer bottles. They’re not being mass produced or sold at this time.
As part of KFC’s marketing push, they’ve released this video asking Hong Kongers to help them choose which flavor to send into mass production:
KFC has always enjoyed a strong customer base in mainland China. They were the first major American fast food restaurant to expand into China and have enjoyed enormous growth across the country. The company is seeking a similar response as it expands into the former British colony of Hong Kong.
How Does It Work?
Most reviews describe the nail polish as “goopy”, saying it doesn’t quite adhere like normal nail polish on your nails. The polish dries up quickly and you’ll need to apply several coats before it sticks.
The taste is strong. Some people describe the flavor as “like chicken”, while others claim it tastes less like chicken and more like a blend of spices.
How to Buy the Edible Nail Polish
So far, KFC has produced just 300 to 500 limited edition bottles of the edible nail polish. They’re currently conducting a Facebook poll to see which flavor should be released commercially one day.
However, there are no official plans to release the nail polish outside of Hong Kong. But if the reaction to this edible nail polish is positive enough, then KFC may have no choice but to launch it worldwide.
