Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo

I have fine, curly hair and lots of it. It takes forever to wash, blow-dry it straight and then use a flat iron to tame frizzies and create a slight curl under at the ends. Dry shampoo is a God-send as it can add another one to three days between shampoos, saving time and damage to my hair from hot appliances. Right now, I have 5 different dry shampoos and there’s something I don’t like about each of them, so I offered to try out 100% natural Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo ($31.99) for Truth In Aging.

The best thing about Pure Glam is that it really does make your hair look, act and feel clean. It leaves it shiny instead of dull like some powder or spray dry shampoos and it adds lots of volume and swing to your hair as well. Pure Glam promises to go on white but then disappear and that it truly does. There’s no tell-tale residue along the part or any other areas one might miss after brushing it through. And it stays looking fresh for at least two days, depending upon how oily/dirty your hair was to begin with. The light rose geranium scent of Pure Glam is lovely and doesn’t fight with perfume. It contains only 4 organic ingredients (arrowroot, kaolin clay, baking soda and rice powder) and an essential oil for fragrance. All of this is very, very nice!

The only problem is in its delivery. 

Pure Glam Dry Shampoo comes in a cardboard cylinder similar to a mailing tube – not the most glamorous packaging but perhaps they’re promoting the “all natural” aspect of their product. The shampoo is applied by turning a plastic disc to either an open hole or grouping of small holes (exactly like the ones used to dispense cooking spices) and shaking it over your hair. Warning: Remove anything you don’t want dusted with white powder – especially dark clothing – from the area while applying the powder to your hair. Unlike my Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo, Pure Glam doesn’t have a fine pointed nozzle to more accurately dispense the powder. Even when the Pure Glam disc is positioned to open only a few of the little holes, the powder goes ALL OVER your hair, body, clothes and the general area where you’re using it. I can use the pointed nozzle of my Oscar Blandi to part my hair and puff powder in layers all over my head rather neatly with minimal residual dust landing on everything around me. The Pure Glam shaker makes it hard to get the powder precisely where you want it which means there’s too much here and too little there. Frustrating and messy!

If Pure Glam repackages this powder in a container with a fine nozzle applicator, I’d be sold. But until then, the mess I have to clean up from my floor, countertops and clothes is just not worth it.
