Just like Joseph Schooling’s surprise upset of the 100 meter butterfly over Michael Phelps, my test of the ASDM Beverly Hills Maximum Hydration Cream ($29) came from the middle of the pack to become a winner! I started the testing period feeling a bit skeptical about this product. While a bit shallow perhaps, the plain packaging and prominence of the phrase “Beverly Hills” in the name made me doubt it would be a quality product. I was happily proven wrong. By the end of the testing period I was looking forward to using this cream each night and had no problem putting aside my usual evening moisturizer.
ASDM Beverly Hills Maximum Hydration Cream lives up to its word: Immediately upon application, my 40-something skin felt well hydrated and healthy. I loved how fast the cream soaked in, leaving an almost tacky surface (not everyone may like this but I do). Pay attention to the label, as you really don’t need much — the instructions say a pea-sized amount. I didn’t read that at first and used more than I needed.
I appreciated the node to cleanliness with the included spoon for dispensing, but I didn’t use it in the end because I like rubbing in face products by hand. This cream does have a light slightly-lemony smell that dissipates after a minute or two.
Maximum Hydration Cream boasts some heavy-hitting ingredients, as well as one that is controversial. Along with five different oils known for their emollient and healing properties, this cream also features argireline to help inhibit wrinkles from facial expressions, several peptides to help build collagen, Vitamin C in the form of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP) and sodium hyaluronate, the more potent form of hyaluronic acid known for its impressive ability to hold more than a thousand times its weight in water.
Now on to the debatable: EDTA tetrasodium. It’s an ingredient used in cosmetics as a preservative and method to bind metals so they don’t react with other ingredients. A simple Google search comes up as something to avoid. However, the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database lists the overall hazard level as low.
I started using a new retinol product recently and the ASDM Beverly Hills Maximum Hydration Cream handled the resulting few dry patches admirably. My skin felt restored immediately and stayed that way overnight, resulting in a face that usually looks more awake than I feel in the early morning.
I will continue to use the ASDM Beverly Hills Maximum Hydration Cream as my primary night cream. It’s a great partner to the rest of the tools in my skincare arsenal.
