The Ultimate Skin Care Checklist for Weddings

The Ultimate Skin Care Checklist for Weddings

The September issue of Bridal Guide will feature Truth Vitality Lux Renew, our ultrasound and LED at-home device, prompting the idea that I should put together a beauty bootcamp for brides — and bridesmaids and mothers thereof. Whether you are the bride-to-be or a member of her wedding party, the stress of planning a wedding can take a toll on your skin. Priority number one: Relax. Then start a strict skin care regimen to ensure a clear and vibrant complexion. Here are some products to get hitched to as you countdown to the big day (and the most demanding photo op’ ever).

Brides

About the time when the registry is chosen, the Facebook group is set up and the serious planning is underway, think skin. Happiness alone will not account for a glowing complexion. Three months out, meet your new best friend: Truth Vitality Lux Renew ($279 in the shop). Lux Renew is the only FDA-cleared device with both LED lights and ultrasound, and independent clinical trials show impressive results in only 12 weeks. Participants saw, according to expert and instrumental evaluation, a 79.3 percent improvement in radiance, a 100 percent improvement in firmness and an 88.9 percent improvement in collagen.

Just before I got married, I broke out in hives. To keep stress- and hormone-related breakouts and flare-ups at bay, always start with a good face wash. Skinfinite Purify Facial Cleanse ($30 in the shop) is a hydroxy acid cleanser that gently exfoliates and brightens the skin. Then use a gentle yet effective peel before bed. For clear skin and refined pores, there’s nothing quite like Dr. Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Ultra Gentle Daily Peel ($88 in the shop). The blue LED light on the Lux Renew will also help treat and prevent mild to moderate acne.

To lessen the look of expression lines and wrinkles, especially crow’s feet, without the use of injectables, look to ClarityRx Get Fit Serum ($105.75 in the shop). Hyaluronic acid binds moisture to the skin for a plumper appearance, while six peptides work to tighten and smooth. I saw seriously-impressive results after using it for only 30 days. Antioxidants are also a must to maintain healthy, youthful skin, and they are jam packed into ExPürtise Effective Anti-Aging Face Serum ($120 in the shop).

A lovely way to stay supple is with Dawn Lorraine Pomegranate Lift Crème ($59 in the shop), which contains strengthening amino acids and a farmer’s market of botanicals. I Pekar Eye Cream ($68 in the shop) is choice for reducing dark circles while firming the delicate skin around the eyes. Finish with a mineral-based sunscreen that won’t clog pores or leave a ghostly caste; Dr. Dennis Gross Sheer Mineral Sun Spray with Broad-Spectrum SPF 50+ ($42 in the shop) is a silky treat.

Bare your back, shoulders and décolleté with confidence after daily rubdowns with ASDM Glycolic Body Lotion ($35 in the shop). Not only does is hydrate skin, it also gently exfoliates with AHAs to prevent rough texture, blemishes and uneven tone. At night, apply Deciem Retin Oil ($20 in the shop) on problem areas like stretch marks or scarred skin.

Finally, you’ll want to really refresh your skin the month before your big day. An excellent at-home treatment that compares to an expensive derm visit is ClarityRX Sleep It Off 21-day treatment ($120 in the shop). Glycolic acid penetrates deeply into the skin as you sleep to loosen dead and damaged cells, making it most effective for treating fine lines, dark spots, blemishes and texture. Massage a layer onto your face every night for three weeks, then give your skin a break the week you walk down the aisle. Use with caution, as it may not be suitable for sensitive skin.

Bridesmaids

You’ll be in these photographs forever, too, so begin your prep a month out. Keep skin clear and gently exfoliated with Dr. Dennis Gross Antioxidant Cleansing Cloths with AHAs ($18 in the shop). Used nightly, these pre-saturated cloths tone as well as cleanse.

Crank up your glow with Board and Batten’s Glowing Solution ($48 in the shop). This highly-concentrated blend of oils and extracts is freshens dull skin. Lightweight and hydrating, it can be used on face, hands or body.

For more even-toned skin, modern vitamin C serums are hard to beat. Medik8 C-Tetra ($70 in the shop) has a gentle and stable form of vitamin C that combats sun damage and boosts collagen production. Another good option is Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Active Moisture Vitamin C Serum ($75 in the shop) with vitamin C, as well as green tea and sea buckthorn. Protect skin from new spots during the day with Suntegrity’s 5-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer ($45 in the shop).

Get together with the girls and indulge in the I Pekar Hungarian Thermal Mud Mask ($98 in the shop) a few times before the big day. It draws out impurities and stimulates a healthy spark. Or, treat yourself to a mini facial, alternating between exfoliation and hydration with Board and Batten Begin Again Micro Facial Buff & Masque ($45 in the shop). This is a fun and versatile product that can be mixed with water for a skin polishing buff, or honey for a soothing mask.

In the final countdown, get sun-kissed all over with DDG Alpha Beta Body Glow Pads ($45 in the shop).

Mother of the bride

You’ll be the second most important woman on the big day and probably the most exhausted from making sure your daughter has the day she’ll never forget. You probably won’t have much time to fuss with a complicated regimen, but your skin deserves love, too.

Keep it simple with a heavy-hitting face serum and eye cream. Stemulation Hi-Impact Serum ($185 in the shop) is an excellent product that combines sH-Oligopeptide-1, hyaluronic acid, and Madonna lily leaf, resulting in skin that looks and feels positively velvety. E'shee Clinical Esthetic Alpha and Omega Gene Therapy Eye Cream ($284 in the shop) is two-time Five Best winner and has committed devotees amongst the Truth In Aging community — including me — thanks to its proven ability to smooth and firm.

If firming your skin and keeping wrinkles in check are priorities, the Truth Vitality Lux Renew is a time-investment that will pay off. Just 10 minutes three times a week will boost collagen and elasticity. For hyperpigmentation, try Medik8 White Balance Click ($80 in the shop), a clever product based on kojic acid.

An efficient bang-for-your–buck comes in the form of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Medi–Spa Peel ($110 in the shop). The weekly exfoliator is packed with 15 skin-rejuvenating acids that will reveal a dewy, even-toned, pore-refined complexion with only a swipe.

Guests

Even as a guest, you want to look your best. Turbo-charge your regimen a few days before the ceremony with Dr. Dennis Gross’ Extra Strength Alpha Beta Peel ($88 in the shop). It safely sheds the outer layer of dead skin cells, bringing fresh, new skin to the surface. On the day of, opt for Deciem NIOD Photography Fluid ($30 in the shop) to smooth over imperfections like a high-tech photo retoucher but in real life. Keep your hair full and voluminous all night with Pure Glam Root Powder.
