I have been road-testing the Your Best Face Advanced CE Concentrate ($50 in the shop) for over four weeks, and I’m ready to share my thoughts with the TIA Community. First, I should tell you that I’ve always thought of vitamin C skin care products much the same as vitamin supplements or vegetables — I know they are good for me, but I can’t necessarily point to any specific benefits. I’ve tried many vitamin C products — from lotions to serums and a few with droppers — but I can’t say that I’ve ever noticed any visible results. So keep in mind that I started this product trial with a healthy dose of skepticism.
I had really bad cystic acne in my teens and it lasted well into my 30s. While I don’t have active breakouts now that I’m in my 40s, I still have the residual scarring and uneven texture and tone that accompany cystic acne. In addition, my skin is still extremely oily. I have been searching for a product that will fade scars and improve the texture and clarity of my skin. Dermatologists consistently promote the use of vitamin C as an important weapon in any skin care regimen due to its antioxidant properties and ability to improve skin texture and tone. But finding a vitamin C product that is compatible with oily skin is easier said than done, as many feel sticky or greasy and don’t play well with other products or makeup.
Your Best Face Advanced CE Concentrate contains 12 percent premium vitamin C. Looking closer at the ingredient list, this concentrated formula is a combination of three different forms of C — aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate (AAP), tetradecyl ascorbate and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP) — blended into a potent cream that is said to be gentle on the skin. I completely agree that the texture of the concentrate is pleasant and blends well into the skin with no residue. There is also no noticeable fragrance.
This cream can be used in the morning or at night in combination with other products, which is a huge plus. I experienced no breakouts or negative reactions of any kind. However, I’m sorry to say that I didn’t experience any noticeable changes in my skin either. Perhaps vitamin C requires a longer commitment to see visible results. I used the cream only at night, because I’m so oily and the fewer products I use under makeup, the longer it lasts. It could also be that using the product twice a day might yield faster results.
Though I have been on a quest for a magical potion for most of my life, I am realistic. I’m still on the fence about vitamin C products in general for my particular skin issues. However, I plan on using up the YBF Advanced CE Concentrate twice daily because it has a nice texture that is comforting and pleasant — and it may be doing good that I don’t yet recognize on the surface.
