Réve Hyalu CO391 Eye-Lip Contouring Trioxygene Cream

This product certainly has an impressive title, but does it actually impress? Réve Hyalu is an Italian company that, according to their website, specializes in hyaluronic acid. The CO391 Eye-Lip Contouring Trioxygene Cream is said to prevent and reduce the signs of skin aging.

My 49-year-old eyes actually liked this product. I felt it to have good slip, it absorbed very well and left my eyes perfectly hydrated all day, resulting in the appearance of fewer wrinkles. Although the website says it has a green tea scent, I didn’t notice any smell at all.

However, the ingredient list did not impress me. A key ingredient discussed on their website is lysate of saccharomyces, something I was completely unfamiliar with before using this product. According to the TIA website and Cosmetics Cop, saccharomyces lysate is a group of fungi that ferment sugars and is a source of beta-glucan, which is a good antioxidant. Derivatives of live yeast cells have been shown to stimulate wound healing, but whether or not this is an effective ingredient in skin care is wavering.

In addition, the fourth ingredient on the list is cyclopentasiloxane, a skin-conditioning agent with some environmental toxicity concerns and potential for irritation, according to the EWG. If it was lower on the product’s ingredient list, I wouldn’t be so concerned, but its placing makes me rethink whether or not I would continue using the product. Followed shortly by methoxy peg-22/dodecyl glycol, which has been linked to contact dermatitis, and, further down the list, phenoxyethanol, this product is definitely not for purists.

It does contain a number of good anti-ingredients, including peptides, pro-vitamin B5 and squalene, but not enough to make me want to overlook the negatives. Overall, this eye cream was a very effective hydrator with a smooth, easy-to-apply texture. Plus, it did lessen the look of fine lines throughout the day. However, the product contains some nasties that will make me think twice about reusing it.
