The Best Bargain Beauty Buys of 2016

The Best Bargain Beauty Buys of 2016

I have been making more of an effort recently to discover new brands and products that that will give your skin a lift without dragging down your bank account balance. Powerful products with active ingredients don’t always have cost you an arm and a leg. Now that we have increased the selection in the Truth In Aging shop, I wanted to highlight some of my favorite anti-agers that come with an affordable price tag — all under $75 — and impressive results! Whatever your skin needs, you can create powerful regimen at a modest price.

Scroll through our best bargain buys below.

Ao Skincare Protect ($59.95 in the shop)
I actually like using this sunscreen (not a common occurrence) from New Zealand brand Ao Skincare. It feels good, isn’t chalky and has one of my favorite ingredients, astaxanthin. This algae-derived antioxidant fights free radicals and UV-induced damage with a massive dose of vitamin C. Other skin protectors include vitamin E, pomegranate, and ferulic acid.

Sublime Beauty Ageless Line Smoother ($51 in the shop)
I’ll let you in on a little trade secret: Matrixyl is an expensive ingredient, so it is always noteworthy to see it in relatively inexpensive products. This focused formula also has sodium hyaluronate for hydrating and the expression line-targeting peptide, Argireline.

Your Best Face Boost ($65 in the shop)
Your Best Face is one of our higher end brands and its prices are more than justified by the thoughtful and sophisticated formulas. Boost is a fantastic way to try cutting edge, signature ingredients such as free radical fighting spin trap and Lipochroman-6 without breaking the bank. This is also a nice mattifying moisturizer and choice for soothing redness.

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum ($29.99 in the shop)
This is a deservedly popular serum with a stable and non-irritating form of vitamin C (Stay-C 50), so it can even be used on sensitive skin. It’s also formulated with vitamin E and ferulic acid to enhance the performance and UV protection of its dose of C.

Skinfinite Peptide Repair Serum ($69 in the shop)
With some well-known heavy hitters, Skinfinite is worth every penny. There are plant-based stem cells, peptides and growth factors to repair fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate collagen synthesis. It also contains a worthy lineup of antioxidants, such as alpha lipoc acid, CoQ10, spin trap and vitamin C.

SkinOwl Eye+ ($46 in the shop)
With its unusual bouncy gel texture, this is not your typical eye cream. I’m personally very fond of it. Rarely have I seen so many amino acids in an eye product and they are most welcome, as my skin does very well with them. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and Eye+ has 13 of them to firm, hydrate and soothe.

Organic Radiance Ultra Nourishing Anti-Aging Elixir ($65 in the shop)
Organic Radiance is a line that formulates with scrupulous attention to natural ingredients, while leaving plenty of room for anti-aging heavy hitters. These include MSM, a natural sulfur that has a skin brightening effect, and palmitoyl tripeptide-3, which stimulates collagen synthesis. There are also plenty of kind-to-worms amino acids, vitamin C, CoQ10 and botanical antioxidants.

Deciem NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate ($68 in the shop)
Here, another of my favorite eye products, especially for firming. Deciem’s NIOD brand tends to be very advanced when it comes to ingredient selection. There’s a selection of anti-aging peptides and even some snail toxin and skin repairing tree bark.

Difinsa53 Skin Protectant Lotion ($62.50 in the shop)
I am never without a tube of Difinsa53. It multitasks as a moisturizer and skin soother, even helping scratches, rashes and rosacea. Plus, it helps protect against UV damage. Originally designed by a team of doctors, the featured ingredient is an antioxidant called sillybum that is derived from the milk thistle plant.

Dawn Lorraine Acai & DMAE Firming Serum ($59 in the shop)

Achieving a good balance of natural ingredients and anti-aging actives, this serum lives up to the firming promises in its name. This could be down to the DMAE. Meanwhile, skin looks clearer due to fruit hydroxyl acids. Alpha Lipoic, CoQ10, niacinamide, and vitamin C provide antioxidant protection against environmental stress.

Beauty and the Bees Real Beer Tasmanian Shampoo ($12.95 in the shop)
Back in the early days of Truth In Aging, we wrote about the benefits of beer for hair. But we never could find a good looking beer shampoo — until we found Tasmanian brand Beauty and the Bees. The fabulously natural formula has hops, beer, beeswax and that’s about it. I’ll drink to that (although wine is my tipple of choice).

Youva Collagen Complex Serum ($68 in the shop)
I pounced on Youva as it is a rare serum that formulates with red clover, an ingredient that seems to be useful for menopausal skin. This serum’s formula is rounded out with hyaluronic acid, marine collagen to fill out fine lines, oat proteins and rosemary to strengthen capillaries. A good number of ingredients are organic and there are no nasties.
