Glo Therapeutics Renew Serum

Glo Therapeutics Renew Serum

By Kathy W.

I discovered the Truth in Aging website a few years ago and was thrilled with the vast amount of information available and the unbiased reviews. I have purchased from several different brands since then, trying to find products that would address my past sins, including years of tanning without SPF, and the wear and tear of 50+ years of living. My skin is dry but not overly sensitive. I have dreaded hyperpigmentation, the start of lip and marionette lines, and flare-ups of milia and comedones.

I had been eyeing different retinol treatments to add to my evening regimen when I was chosen to try the Glo Therapeutics Renew Serum ($43). This serum certainly seemed to pack a punch with one percent retinol, seven percent glycolic acid and five percent salicylic acid — a triple threat against rough, sun-damaged skin!

The directions suggest using the serum two to seven times per week in the evening, allowing it to penetrate for 30 minutes before using a moisturizer. The bottle contains 30ml — which isn’t stingy in my opinion — and the pump mechanism works well to dispense the perfect amount for the entire face and neck. The product has a very sweet, fruity fragrance that lasts for 10 to 15 minutes after application. Although I prefer unscented products, this was not a deal breaker for me; however, it may be for some. The serum remains tacky on the skin for the same length of time.

Within five minutes of applying, my skin was flushed and warm, but the effect lasted only a few minutes. I have used Renew Serum every night for the past four weeks with no adverse effects. As a result, my skin has become softer and smoother, and I feel the little lines around my lips to be less noticeable. I have not really seen any improvement in the hyperpigmentation, but my spots are quite dark and I believe this wasn’t sufficient time. I’m most impressed by the almost-complete reduction in the milia! Those little bumps are infuriating and wreak havoc on makeup application.

The change was gradual, but now I see only smooth, non-bumpy skin under my eyes and on my cheeks. I can likely thank the exfoliating action of the glycolic and salicylic acids, along with hydrolyzed yeast protein, which controls oil and sebum production. I’m going to finish the bottle to see if I notice any improvement in skin tone. Retinol, amla extract (which contains high amounts of vitamin C) and niacinamide (a B-vitamin) all have pigment suppressing or reducing qualities, so there is hope!

Renew Serum is a great exfoliator that I can use frequently to keep my skin smooth and clear. Plus, the price point is excellent with all of the powerful actives. This serum is not for purists (see denatured alcohol, chemical preservatives and parfum) and may be too harsh for some skin types, but I look forward to further improvement with continued use.
