I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to review Ao Skincare Restore ($119.95 in the shop), and I can definitely say it has been one of my favorite products to test for Truth In Aging. I will absolutely be trying other products from this wonderful company. First, I’ll give a quick overview of the current state of my skin: I am 41 years old and a former sun-lover with some damaged and small wrinkles. I have some mild sagging on my lower cheeks and always have puffy eyes, thanks to constant allergies and a lack of sleep. I have two little ones — ages 3 and 5 — and work a full time job, so I’m always on the hunt for multi-tasking products.
AO Skincare products have lovely packaging and design, which makes the product feel luxurious and well worth the cost. They produce six products, including a cleanser, daily moisturizer, sunscreen, restoring serum, night treatment and a retinol product. I can’t wait to get my hands on the others. Ao Skincare is a New Zealand company with a focus on natural products that are effective. They use fewer chemicals and more from nature. They remind me a bit of Snowberry, another New Zealand skincare line I was introduced to by TIA and love.
Restore has a host of goodies that made me want to give it a try: lots of peptides and vitamins, aloe leaf juice, humectants, some interesting botanicals such as fern leaf extract and mugwort, Manuka honey and a couple of marine-derived extracts and plant stem cells. I love that they explain why they chose certain preservatives and what their potential toxicity may be as well. So, the ingredients look great, but what does the sum of all of these parts do?
I was sent the Restore serum and have been applying it in the mornings and sporadically in the evenings. The product has a nice, almost almond-like, sweet smell. It goes on like a thin, well-absorbing serum and settles in nicely before layering with other products. My first thought was that this product is a plumping serum. It hydrates very well for a serum and gives my skin a fresh, dewy glow. Just to make sure that it wasn’t just me, I visited the AO Skincare website and read that others had experienced the same effect.
I have had good luck with peptide-based products in the past, but this one hits it out of the park! I can’t say that it decreased my wrinkles to a great degree just yet, but it sure did make me look refreshed and well-rested. I also did not have one single breakout or flare-up, which usually happens during my monthly hormonal fluctuations. It’s kept my skin nearly clear and well-hydrated for the entire time I have used it. This is going to be my go-to serum for our dry and cold winters in Denver.
